DayZ server requirements: CPU, RAM and storage for your workload
An empty DayZ server tells you little about a busy trader zone. Bohemia lists 6 GB of RAM in its DayZ dedicated-server requirements and recommends an SSD for installation and logs. Start there, then measure the map, saved world and player activity you intend to host. Bohemia server requirements
Before comparing plans, record the map, mods, population, software build and operations. Keep those details with each test so you can compare results after a change.
Bohemia’s published dedicated-server minimum
Section titled “Bohemia’s published dedicated-server minimum”Bohemia’s requirements page lists the following baseline, including older CPU, Windows and disk examples.
| Resource | Published baseline | What to use when choosing a host |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Intel dual-core 2.4 GHz or AMD dual-core Athlon 2.5 GHz | Compare current processors under your mission’s load. The old clock figures do not establish modern player capacity. |
| RAM | 6 GB | Allow room for the OS, mods, saved world and other services beyond the game process. |
| Storage | 2.5 GB listed; SSD recommended for installation and logs | Measure the current installed server, Workshop files, saves, logs, backups and space for an update. The wiki’s old disk figure is not a usable budget for a current modded server. |
| OS | Windows or Linux | Use a supported OS release and check your game build, mods and admin tools for compatibility. |

Start a small server, then size the community
Section titled “Start a small server, then size the community”For a first vanilla installation, use a current host with an SSD, at least the published memory baseline available to DayZ, and additional memory for the OS. Keep the test private, load the map and connect your small group before raising maxPlayers. The Windows and Linux setup walkthrough covers that first run.
For a modded community, prepare the map and complete mod list before selecting resources. Record memory after loading the saved world and while players visit the busiest areas. If the allocation has no room left for the OS, a save or an update, increase it or reduce the workload before launch.
We cannot turn a player count into a reliable RAM or core figure without testing that setup. Send VYKIX your map, mods and expected peak so we can check the plan you are considering against the work it needs to do.
Use server requirements, not the player’s PC requirements
Section titled “Use server requirements, not the player’s PC requirements”The DayZ Steam store requirements describe the player’s client, including graphics and sound. Use server requirements to size the host. Client rendering FPS and server simulation FPS measure different work.
For a self-managed DayZ PC server, check the release, OS dependencies and administration tools you intend to use. Bohemia provides a Linux server guide. Check each mod component and tool for Linux support, including anything built for Windows.
Record these five inputs
Section titled “Record these five inputs”| Input | What to write down before choosing a plan |
|---|---|
| Map | Terrain, mission, community-map version and persistence snapshot or age. Include the established world you plan to host. |
| Mods | Workshop IDs or package sources, versions, dependencies and load order, including server-only packages and settings. |
| Population | Expected peak, tested player count and what those players did. A trader visit or base fight creates a different workload from standing idle. |
| Software build | Server build and channel, test-client build, OS and relevant admin-tool versions. |
| Operations | Saves, backups, restarts, external databases and other processes sharing the allocation, plus time since startup. |
Load the intended mods before taking readings. The DayZ mod installation guide covers files, keys and dependencies. Missing a required package changes the workload you are measuring.
Check CPU, memory and storage together
Section titled “Check CPU, memory and storage together”CPU and server FPS
Section titled “CPU and server FPS”Find out what CPU resources the order gives you. Record the processor model and whether you have a complete physical machine, VPS allocation or managed game process. Ask the provider to explain sharing and limits if the quote leaves them unclear.
During the same play session, collect per-core CPU readings, DayZ process use and server FPS. A whole-machine average can hide a busy core. Testing your mission scripts under load tells you more than the advertised clock and core count alone.
Record the server’s configured FPS cap. If the server reaches that cap, the result does not show how much further it could go. Keep client FPS and browser ping in separate fields.
Memory
Section titled “Memory”Measure memory after startup, while players are active and during scheduled jobs. Label each reading and its units so you can distinguish process memory, total machine use and the hosting allocation.
Record the peak, unused allocation and any paging or memory-limit termination. On self-managed machines, allow room for the OS, databases, panel and other instances. If a test consumes the whole allocation, you have no measured headroom for growth.
Storage
Section titled “Storage”Add up installed mods, mission and persistence files, logs, update space and retained backups. Workshop downloads and installed copies can occupy separate space, so use both when estimating disk needs.
If players report a stall, check disk activity at that time. Free space alone does not tell you whether a save or competing job finished in time. Keep a backup outside the game server alongside any local recovery slots.
Collect matching FPS, memory and player readings
Section titled “Collect matching FPS, memory and player readings”Bohemia documents logAverageFps, logMemory and logPlayers in the DayZ server configuration reference. They need -doLogs. Edit the configuration selected by -config, often serverDZ.cfg, and preserve the other startup options.
On a backed-up test instance, these values request readings every five seconds:
logAverageFps = 5;logMemory = 5;logPlayers = 5;Stop the test instance and save its existing values before editing. Start it with -doLogs and open the RPT log under the path selected by -profiles. If VXPanel does not expose that startup option, ask us to check it. Replacing the launch command can lose the service’s assigned settings.
Use the same logging interval in each run. Note the clock and time zone to line up logs, panel graphs and player reports. Watch the log size and restore the previous logging settings when the investigation is finished.
The Windows DayZ 1.29 log example reports memory in KB. Record the FPS, memory use and player count together at the selected interval; a quiet-server reading does not establish player capacity.
Run a workload test without touching live persistence
Section titled “Run a workload test without touching live persistence”- Back up the working server. Follow its graceful shutdown procedure and copy the mission, persistence, configuration and mod data outside the service. Verify the copy.
- Isolate the test instance. Give it separate storage and profile paths, ports, a name and access controls. Disable or replace copied database connections, webhooks and integrations that could write to live systems. Keep the two instances on different persistence folders.
- Save the starting conditions. Record the build, map, saved world, mod versions, allocation and logging interval. Keep an untouched copy for another run.
- Reproduce player activity. Record quiet play, the busy activity you want to support, a save and relevant scheduled jobs. Note the players present and session duration.
- Change one thing. Adjust a suspected mod setting, competing task or allocation on the test copy and repeat the activity. Retain the earlier results and persistence so the comparison stays useful.
Record the population you tested. If fewer players joined than you expect at peak, test again before treating the result as full-server capacity. These are measurements of your setup, rather than a VYKIX benchmark.

What about a 100-player DayZ server?
Section titled “What about a 100-player DayZ server?”Test the workload for 100 simultaneous players before choosing an allocation. maxPlayers limits connections; CPU, mission scripts and mods determine whether play remains acceptable at that population. Configuration reference
Send the completed workload sheet with your hosting enquiry. Ask which configuration the provider recommends, what testing is available before committing and how upgrades work. Repeat the test after major updates, a map change or substantial mod changes.
Choose hosting that fits the workload and the work you want to do
Section titled “Choose hosting that fits the workload and the work you want to do”With managed DayZ hosting, you edit game files and settings through VXPanel while we maintain the host OS. There is no per-slot fee, with slots and resources subject to fair use. Choose the player cap from your workload test.
Game VPS gives you root access and responsibility for the OS and game software. A bare-metal server reserves the whole physical machine. Use the hosting-model guide to compare that administration, and the DayZ cost guide to budget for billing, extras and independent backups.
Bring the map, mod list and test notes to the DayZ hosting configurator. Record the configuration during a trial too. Trial and paid hardware can differ, so apply the readings to the setup you tested.
For an existing service with lag, follow the DayZ performance diagnosis and record the affected workload before choosing a resource change.
