Install RaG Hunting Cabin on a DayZ server
Install RaG Hunting Cabin and RaG Core on the server and joining clients, then generate the cabin settings before changing construction costs. Hunting Cabin is a separate package from RaG BaseBuilding and RaG BaseItems.
Use the original RaG Hunting Cabin, Workshop item 3117613872, with RaG Core (3556131153). The author’s overview permits use on an approved monetized server only when the mod itself is excluded from monetization; repacking and reuploading are prohibited.
The wiki describes an opening door, eight windows and switchable lights, but no cabin cargo or built-in fireplace. Plan separate storage instead of relying on older feature lists.
Install the packages and generate settings
Section titled “Install the packages and generate settings”Stop the server and back up its mission, world storage, profiles and launch settings. Rehearse the setup on a separate instance before adding it to a world players use.
Install both original packages through VXPanel Mods with client-visible loading. On a manual host, follow the mod installation and signing-key procedure. Copy the supplied keys, keep signature checks enabled and match the client and server releases. Both packages must load; rearranging the launch list cannot replace a missing package.
Start once, check the log, then stop the server. The author’s setup instructions place the main file beneath the active profiles directory:
RaG_Core/Configs/ RaG_Hunting_Cabin/ RaG_Hunting_Cabin.jsonBack up that generated file before editing it. Retain Version, validate the JSON and restart after each change. If the file never appears, check the active profiles path, write permissions and Core startup errors.
Give players the normal kit
Section titled “Give players the normal kit”Use rag_hunting_cabin_kit for ordinary loot, traders or rewards. The separate rag_hunting_cabin_admin_kit bypasses construction materials and produces a completed cabin immediately. Keep the admin kit out of player distribution.
The setup reference supplies classnames but no Central Economy XML. Follow custom loot registration using definitions you have checked against the installed release. Avoid registering the finished cabin, construction hologram or temporary refund box as normal loot. An admin-spawned kit alone doesn’t verify your economy settings.
Build a cabin and check the material costs
Section titled “Build a cabin and check the material costs”The documented kit recipe uses 10 wooden planks and 50 nails. After placing the kit, attach the construction materials to its hologram:
| Material | Default quantity |
|---|---|
| Nails | 99 |
| Wooden planks | 100 |
| Wooden logs | 20 |
| Stones | 32 |
Stand at the stairs with a non-ruined hammer or hatchet and use Build. The author’s building instructions say construction consumes the attached stacks, including excess material. Supply the required quantities rather than overfilling them.
The configuration reference separates kit crafting from construction. CanCraftHuntingCabinKit controls the recipe. NailAmount, WoodenPlankAmount, WoodenLogAmount and StoneAmount control building requirements and material refunds; they don’t change the kit recipe.
Keep these quantities whole and non-negative. The documented build check still requires all four attachments when a quantity is zero. Refunds use the configured amounts at dismantling, so changing costs also changes what existing cabins return.
RuinHammerAfterBuilt applies to both supported tools. With the default 1, building ruins the hammer or hatchet; 0 applies 10 health damage instead. Set this deliberately before players start building.
Choose locks and raid rules
Section titled “Choose locks and raid rules”The cabin supports vanilla combination locks. Its Code Lock integration uses a separate file beneath the profiles directory:
CodeLock/ RaG_Hunting_Cabin_CodeLockConfig.jsonFor Code Lock, preserve the quoted string values for CanAttach, CanRaid and DeleteLockOnRaid. They use "true" or "false", rather than unquoted JSON booleans. Keep raid time positive and use exact item classnames in RaidTools.
Check each lock type separately. Cabin Code Lock settings don’t define vanilla combination-lock raiding. The author directs Expansion users to the separate RaG Expansion Compat package; verify its current requirements before combining it with Expansion BaseBuilding.
Try locking and opening the door as its owner, a guest and a player without access. Test the permitted raid action as well. Seeing a lock on the door doesn’t prove that it enforces your access rules.
For a cabin that should resist damage, the author documents DayZ’s disableBaseDamage setting in the active gameplay configuration. It affects base-building objects across the server. Follow the PvE configuration guide and check the cabin alongside your other structures.
Check restart behavior and dismantling
Section titled “Check restart behavior and dismantling”The author’s building reference says the door and eight windows close after restart, while the light switches reset off. Check that the cabin, lock and attached items survive separately from those expected state changes.
For dismantling, stand inside, aim at the door, remove attachments and use a non-ruined crowbar, hatchet or sledgehammer. GiveBackKitAfterDismantle and GiveBackMaterialsAfterDismantle control returns. The author documents no material refund for an admin cabin; collect a normal cabin’s refund box contents promptly.
Avoid using Force Synchronize as routine maintenance. The wiki says it deletes and recreates an empty cabin, retaining position, orientation and health but losing its admin flag and door, window and light states. It also reports no administrator-only restriction. Review this behavior against your installed release before allowing public use.
Restore your backup on the separate instance and check the same cabin, lock and attachments with an ordinary player account. Keep the game and mod versions, configuration and results together so you can repeat the check after an update.
Source and verification scope
Section titled “Source and verification scope”The author’s four Hunting Cabin wiki pages were read on 7 October 2026 and matched to their 29 September documentation revision. This procedure follows that documentation. The linked implementation repository was unavailable during review; current package contents, game behavior, access rules and recovery have not been tested here.
