Hosting a DayZ Server on Your Own PC

Check the machine and public connection before spending an evening installing mods:

• Workload fit. DayZ uses parallel tasks and multithreaded replication. CPU architecture, contention, memory and your mission affect capacity. Plan a test with the server requirements guide.
• Server installation. SteamCMD installs and updates the stable server with app ID 223350. Bohemia’s Linux guide uses a Steam account login. Follow the instructions for your OS and enter credentials at the prompt, not in shared scripts.
• Configuration editing. Use a text editor for serverDZ.cfg, including name, password, maxPlayers, persistence and time settings.
• Inbound access. Match router forwarding and firewalls to the configured game and query endpoints. Check ISP restrictions and carrier-grade NAT; router forwarding cannot solve every upstream restriction. Keep RCON closed unless you need restricted remote administration.
• Upload capacity. Test with your players and normal household traffic. A fixed upload figure cannot certify a player count or connection quality.

What “Free” Costs When the Server Goes Public

A home-hosted server puts availability and recovery on your schedule, alongside the power and connection charges.

Availability and recovery. Your machine, game process and connection must stay up while players use them. Plan downtime and updates. Keep verified persistence backups outside that machine so one disk failure cannot take every copy.

Bandwidth. The game shares upload capacity with the household. Match network measurements to logs and resource use when play deteriorates; lag can have causes elsewhere.

Public endpoint. Players and listing services need an address they can reach. Direct home hosting can expose your connection’s public IP, though it does not publish your street address. Decide whether that exposure suits a public community.

Home hosting can fit a group when you can maintain the machine, recover its files and accept the connection’s limits.

If the provider cannot explain access and retention, keep the world elsewhere until you have an answer.
