How to Set Up a DayZ PvE Server in 2026

Set up and test a DayZ PvE server: player damage, Expansion safe zones, traders, AI and economy settings. Check mod requirements before inviting players.

DayZ PvE checks pair player attacks, vehicle contact and base raiding with tests inside, outside and across a zone boundary.

Decide what “PvE” means before choosing mods. Can players hurt each other, damage vehicles or raid bases? Do trader zones follow different rules? Write those decisions down, install the controls that cover them and test with another player before opening the server.

Get a vanilla PC server running with the server setup guide first. For a closed group, private DayZ hosting covers admission controls. A password keeps strangers out; it does not set your damage policy.

Build around tested rules:

  • Standard DayZ settings do not provide a complete PvE damage mode.
  • Expansion adds optional safe zones, territories, traders and AI. Choose documented player-damage controls for the rules you want.
  • Tune events.xml and types.xml to support the intended environmental threats and supplies.
  • Test damage inside zones, outside them and across their boundaries.

How PvE Works in DayZ

Passwords and whitelisting in the DayZ server configuration control admission. They leave player damage as a separate problem to solve.

DayZ Expansion provides optional traders, base building and AI. For map-wide damage rules, review a dedicated PvE mod. The older PVEZ author’s configuration notes illustrate PvE/PvP regions and warn that setting names and values have changed. Its Workshop description describes restoring health after attacks and warns that lethal single hits can still kill. Do not treat those notes as a current install recommendation or a guarantee that damage is blocked. Check the chosen mod’s maintained release and test its actual behavior.

Before editing cfggameplay.json, check the gameplay settings reference. Base and container controls do not switch off combat between players.

⚠️ Test the damage-control mod before adding content. Have another player try the attacks you intend to block. Add traders, AI and building mods one at a time, then repeat the tests so a new conflict has a clear starting point.

DayZ Expansion PvE Features

Choose the Expansion features your community needs and check each module’s configuration reference. Settings can live in different folders.

Territories

Territories let players claim land and manage membership. Set the building permissions, then have someone outside the territory group test building, dismantling and raiding. Use those results to describe what the claim protects.

Safe Zones

Expansion safe zones can protect areas such as traders. Its SafeZoneSettings reference places SafeZoneSettings.json in the active mission’s expansion/settings/ folder. Enable and define the zone, review vehicle-damage and cleanup options, then test with the installed mod set before publishing the rules.

Traders

Expansion NPC traders can buy and sell gear, weapons, vehicles and building materials. Choose the item list, prices and stock for each location. Test those trades against your loot supply so the shop supports the economy you intended.

AI Missions

Expansion AI can add NPC bandits and patrols. Use encounters where they support your server’s rules, then test combat and the added workload. A community can also focus on survival, building or exploration without AI missions.

Server Settings for PvE

Before editing, locate the active mission, profile directory and each mod’s settings. Use the generated files and module documentation to avoid changing an unused copy.

Expansion Damage Settings

Expansion’s DamageSystemSettings adds explosion-damage handling for configured items, including supported base-building objects. "Enabled": 1 enables that system. Player-damage rules still belong in the PvE mod chosen for that job.

Zombie and Wildlife Tuning

Read the active mission’s economy files together before raising infected or wildlife counts:

  • db/events.xml defines events, including animal and infected entries. Check their limits and the terrain’s zone or territory data.
  • db/globals.xml includes the ZombieMaxCount and AnimalMaxCount caps. Corpse-cleanup timers control a different part of the lifecycle.
  • Infected zones and territory data define spawn locations and conditions. Raising a global limit does not assign more entities to a specific town.

Bohemia’s Central Economy configuration reference and terrain setup guide explain the file roles. Work on an isolated instance with a backed-up mission.

Raise counts in small steps and visit populated areas after each change. Measure the extra infected, wildlife and AI load with your mods; one multiplier cannot fit every map.

Weather and Time Settings

Set darkness and day length for the play you want. serverTimeAcceleration sets the time multiplier, while serverNightTimeAcceleration multiplies it at night. Test a complete cycle. Weather and temperature need the relevant terrain or weather-mod settings.

Loot Economy

Use the active mission’s db/types.xml or configured overrides. nominal sets the target count and min a replenishment threshold, with counting flags and spawn conditions affecting the result. Preserve the original files and test a small change. A higher value does not guarantee an item at a chosen location.

Best DayZ PvE Mods for 2026

Pick a mod for a defined feature, then read its current requirements. The Expansion installation guide lists CF and Dabs Framework, with modules or a bundle. Installing Core alone does not provide the whole feature set.

DayZ Expansion hosting explains the file access and configuration work for a server built around these modules.

Mod What It Does Requires
Community Framework (CF) Shared framework required by supported mods, including Expansion. Follow the mod’s required-item list
DayZ Expansion modules Add the module for the features you want, such as market trading or base building. CF, Dabs Framework and the selected modules’ requirements
DayZ Expansion AI NPC patrols and AI encounters. Follow the current Expansion installation guide
Trader NPC merchant system with buy/sell economy. Check the current Workshop required items
TraderPlus Economy features such as banking and vehicle trading. Check the current Workshop required items
Code Lock Digital keypad locks for supported doors and gates. Check the current Workshop required items
BuilderItems Building and decoration assets. Check the current Workshop required items
MuchStuffPack Furniture, storage containers and interior items. Check the current Workshop required items
VPPAdminTools Admin suite with player management, teleport, weather control, and logging. CF
Base Building Plus Additional construction options. Check the current Workshop required items

Load dependencies before their dependents. Follow the author’s order for each package; unrelated mods do not all belong after Expansion. Keep .RPT logs after a failure and test the last change on a copy. Crashes and signature errors can have causes other than load order.

The DayZ mod setup guide covers files, keys and installation checks.

Finding DayZ PvE Servers to Join

To join a PvE community, use listings to find candidates and the community’s rules to decide whether it suits you.

DayZ server browser. Search for “PvE” in the name filter, then inspect the listed population and required mods. The name is a starting point for checking the rules.

DZSA Launcher. Search its server-name filter for “PvE” and check the launcher’s setup instructions and required client content.

BattleMetrics. The DayZ directory provides listings and reported activity. Query results cannot tell you how damage rules are enforced or prove playable uptime.

Discord communities. Look for published rules, staff contacts and recent announcements in a server’s Discord. Ask about protection and moderation before committing time to a character; chat activity alone does not prove in-game activity.

Read the mod list and ask whether PvE relies on blocked damage, admin moderation or both. Find out what happens at safe-zone boundaries and during raids.

Hosting a DayZ PvE Server on VYKIX

Test your busiest trader areas, AI encounters and scheduled events with the intended mod set. Persistent bases and community activity add workload. Use the DayZ requirements guide to collect matching measurements.

Compare DayZ PvE hosting with the files and controls your rules require. Roleplay hosting covers admission and staff access for character-based communities; private hosting covers closed-group passwords and whitelists.

VYKIX’s managed DayZ controls and terms:

  • Workshop installs. VXPanel tracks the installation and provides scope and order controls. Review dependencies and restart after setup. An update check does not install files; use the panel mod workflow.
  • No per-slot fee. The listed plan includes unlimited slots, RAM and storage under fair-use terms. Test the workload and review the portal total, including applicable taxes and fees, before payment.
  • Named paid configuration. The product sheet lists an overclocked i9-14900K build. Trial hardware can differ; neither the CPU name nor slot cap establishes capacity for your mods.
  • VxShield included. DayZ-aware filtering handles supported attack traffic. It does not repair mod errors or guarantee uninterrupted service during every attack.

Our Rearmed deployment write-up and StalkerZ case study describe particular deployments and incidents. Use their evidence as context for your own test.

Common Questions

Does DayZ have a native PvE mode?

There is no standard DayZ setting that blocks player damage while preserving all environmental threats. Choose a PvE mod with documented damage rules and test it. Passwords and whitelists control who joins.

What mods do I need for a DayZ PvE server?

Start with the damage rules you need. Add Expansion modules for features such as traders, territories or AI, then check each module’s requirements. Expansion’s installation guide lists CF and Dabs Framework.

How do I disable PvP on a DayZ server?

Follow a PvE mod’s current player-damage configuration and test weapons, melee, vehicles and zone boundaries with another player. Expansion DamageSystemSettings.json handles explosion damage to configured items; it is not a global PvP switch.

What are the best DayZ maps for PvE?

Choose the terrain your group wants, then check mods and DLC. VYKIX supports released official PC maps and compatible Workshop community maps. Players need DayZ Frostline for Sakhal; community terrain can require additional files and dependencies.

Can I have PvP zones on a DayZ PvE server?

Yes, with a compatible zone mod. Follow the installed release’s instructions and test entry, exit and attacks crossing the boundary. Older PVEZ documentation describes health restoration with lethal-hit limitations, so it is not proof that all player damage is blocked.

How do I find DayZ PvE servers to join?

Search the DayZ browser’s name filter for PvE. DZSA Launcher and BattleMetrics provide other listings. Read the community rules and ask how staff enforce PvE before joining.
