DayZ Server Tools: The Owner's Toolkit Explained

Choose tools around the jobs your DayZ server needs: edit settings, recover files and investigate failures. Mods add package and key management. Scheduling can save repeat work, but a vanilla server does not need a mod installer or a fixed restart timetable.

Config Editor: serverDZ.cfg Is the Server

Check the file selected by -config before editing serverDZ.cfg. It contains identity, player-limit, mission and time settings. Keep verifySignatures = 2 for supported mod-signature checks. Economy Editor: types.xml Runs the Loot Table

In the active mission, types.xml defines item types and their economy settings. nominal is a target count; min is a replenishment threshold. Mod and Key Manager: Where Most Admin Time Goes

Use the mod author’s file, key and loading instructions. Reserve -serverMod= for packages that support server-only loading. VPPAdminTools loads after CF in the normal list, "-mod=@CF;@VPPAdminTools", according to its installation guide.

After an update, match client-required versions and keys to the publisher’s release. Check scope as well as files when players cannot join.

In our Workshop workflow, open the expected item, review required mods and start the install. Wait for Installed mods, then check scope and load order before a maintenance-window restart. Read the author’s instructions too; Workshop dependency metadata can be incomplete.

Check updates compares the installed-copy timestamp with Steam’s cached timestamp; it does not install an update. Update catalog refreshes catalog information. Confirm Restore mods on startup under Advanced settings or ask support which file-update workflow applies. Recheck after the update and refresh. Backups: The Tool You Value One Edit Too Late

Back up before changing the mission, persistence or production mod set. If the world looks empty after a change, preserve the files and check the selected storage before restoring anything. A failed start does not prove corruption or deletion.

The paid DayZ plan includes three same-server backup slots. Monitoring: Knowing Why It Broke

Keep RPT logs for startup and crash investigation, and use the VXPanel console for live output and recent metrics. With -doLogs enabled, logAverageFps = 1 requests one-second server-FPS readings.
