DayZ server requirements: CPU, RAM and storage for your workload
Size a DayZ PC server around its map, mods and active players. Check CPU, RAM and storage, record server FPS, and use a repeatable workload test.

An empty DayZ server is a poor test for a busy trader zone. Bohemia’s DayZ dedicated-server requirements list 6 GB of RAM and recommend an SSD for installation and logs. Use those figures as a starting point, then measure the map, saved world and players you intend to host. Bohemia server requirements
Write down map, mods, population, software build and operations before comparing plans. Keep those conditions with your results so another test has something useful to compare against.
Use server requirements, not the player’s PC requirements
Use the DayZ Steam store requirements for a player’s game client. Its graphics and sound requirements do not size a dedicated server. Client rendering FPS and server simulation FPS describe different work.
For a self-managed DayZ PC server, check the server release, OS dependencies and tools you need. Bohemia has a Linux server guide; a Windows-only mod component or admin tool still needs its own compatibility check.
Record these five inputs
| Input | What to write down before choosing a plan |
|---|---|
| Map | Terrain, mission and community-map version; include the persistence snapshot or its age. An established world and an empty map are different workloads. |
| Mods | Workshop IDs or package sources, versions, dependencies and load order. Include server-only packages and their settings. |
| Population | Expected peak and tested player count. Describe the activity: standing idle does not reproduce a trader visit or base fight. |
| Software build | Server build and channel, test-client build, OS and relevant admin-tool versions. |
| Operations | Saves, backups, restarts, external databases and other processes using the allocation. Record time since startup. |
Get the intended mod set loading before you measure it. The DayZ mod installation guide covers files, keys and dependencies; readings from a server missing required mods will describe the wrong workload.
Check CPU, memory and storage together
CPU and server FPS
Ask what the CPU allocation means for your order. Record the processor model and whether you rent the whole physical machine, a VPS allocation or a managed game process. If sharing or limits are unclear, ask the provider to explain them.
Capture per-core readings alongside the DayZ process and server FPS during the same activity. A whole-machine average can hide a busy core. The advertised clock and core count will not tell you how your mission scripts behave under load.
Record the configured FPS cap. A server sitting at its cap has not demonstrated how far it could go beyond it. Keep client FPS and browser ping out of the server-FPS column.
Memory
Take memory readings after startup, during play and while scheduled jobs run. Label the metric and units: process memory, total machine use and the hosting allocation mean different things.
Save the observed peak, unused allocation and any paging or memory-limit termination. Leave room for the OS, databases, panel and other instances on a self-managed machine. Using the whole allocation in a test leaves no measured headroom for growth.
Storage
Count the deployed files, including mods, mission and persistence data, logs, update space and retained backups. A Workshop download and its installed copy can consume separate space; the download size alone is not your storage budget.
Match disk activity to the time players report a stall. Spare capacity does not show whether a save or competing job finished on time. Keep a backup outside the game server as well as any local recovery slots.
Collect matching FPS, memory and player readings
Bohemia’s DayZ server configuration reference documents logAverageFps, logMemory and logPlayers. They require -doLogs. Edit the file selected by -config, often serverDZ.cfg, without replacing the other startup options.
These values request readings every five seconds on your backed-up test instance:
logAverageFps = 5;logMemory = 5;logPlayers = 5;Stop the test instance and save the previous values before editing. Start with -doLogs, then check the RPT log in the directory selected by -profiles. If VXPanel does not expose the startup option you need, ask us to confirm it; replacing the launch command can discard the service’s existing assignments.
Keep the logging interval consistent between runs. Record the clock and time zone so you can match logs, panel graphs and player reports. Watch file growth and restore the previous logging settings when the investigation ends.
Run a workload test without touching live persistence
- Make a recoverable copy. Use the live server’s graceful shutdown procedure, then copy the mission, persistence, configuration and mod data outside the service. Verify the files before proceeding.
- Separate the test. Assign different storage and profile paths, ports, name and access controls. Disable or replace copied database connections, webhooks and integrations that could write to live systems. Two instances must not share a persistence folder.
- Record the starting state. Keep the build, map, saved world, mod versions, allocation and logging interval together. Retain an untouched copy for repeat runs.
- Exercise the server. After startup, record quiet play and the activity you want to support. Include a save and relevant scheduled jobs. Note who joined and how long the session ran.
- Test one change. Change a suspected mod setting, competing task or allocation on the copy, then repeat the activity. Keep the original results. Wiping persistence would create a different comparison.
If only part of your expected population joins the test, record that limit. These steps help you collect evidence for your own setup; they do not supply a VYKIX benchmark or justify extrapolating to a full server.

What about a 100-player DayZ server?
A target of 100 simultaneous players needs a workload test. maxPlayers sets the connection limit; it does not certify the CPU, mission or mods for that population. Configuration reference
Send the workload sheet with your hosting enquiry. Ask which configuration the provider proposes, what you can test before committing and what an upgrade involves. Recheck after a major update, map change or substantial mod change.
Choose hosting that fits the workload and the work you want to do
With managed DayZ hosting, you edit game files and settings in VXPanel while we maintain the host OS. There is no per-slot fee; player slots and resources remain subject to fair use. Set the player cap from your test, not from the largest number the field accepts.
Game VPS gives you root access and responsibility for the OS and game software. A Frankfurt bare-metal server reserves the complete physical machine. Compare that work in the hosting-model guide, then use the DayZ cost guide for billing, extras and independent backups.
Bring the map, mod list and test notes to the DayZ hosting configurator. When testing a trial, record its configuration too: trial hardware can differ from the paid server, so its results apply to the setup you used.
Game-aware DDoS protection for your server.
Run your game server with VxShield included. Ask about free migration and seven days free for eligible customers switching hosts. VYKIX confirms the scope, timing, and terms before the move.
